Tim Hetherington was a photojournalist, best known for Restrepo, his documentary film that was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011.

He began his career at London's The Big Issue, then began focusing more on West Africa. During Liberia's Second Civil War, Hetherington and his colleague James Brabazon were the only foreign journalists behind rebel lines.

His photography appeared in 2004's Liberia: An Uncivil War and 2007's The Devil Came on Horseback. Hetherington has also received the Rory Peck Features award in 2008 the Alfred I.duPont Award for broadcast journalism in 2009.

He died on April 20, 2011 in Mistrata, Libya from a mortar shell attack.
