Hurricane Katia, which started as a tropical storm at the southernmost part of the Cape Verde islands, has been slowly gathering strength as it moves westward across the Atlantic. The storm is moving quickly with a sustained wind speed of 40 mph. According to the National Hurricane centre in Miami, Florida, Katia could be a powerful category 3 hurricane by Sunday, September 4, 2011. According to storm specialists, Katia could affect the Caribbean islands, but it is too early to determine its effect on the United States.
