An aerial mosaic in which the photographs have not been adjusted either in orientation or scale by reference to ground control. The only adjustment is by matching detail point by point on adjoining photographs.

A navigation system using the measured differences in distance (measured in wave-lengths) of a mobile unit from three or more fixed units to determine the location of the mobile unit. Only the fractional part of one wavelength is actually measured. Most hyperbolic navigation-systems keep count of the changes in difference by one whole wavelength, so that one the entire distance is known, the system continues to indicate the total difference, regardless of the movement of the unit. To get a total difference to start with, or to recover one if the system stops functioning for a while, some systems use auxiliary signals at much longer wavelengths also; this allows the smaller difference to be accurately located within the one determined using the longer wavelengths.
