(1) In a multidimensional clustering table, a unique combination of dimension values. Physically, a cell is made up of blocks of pages whose records all share the same values for each dimension column.
(2) A group of managed processes that are federated to the same deployment manager and can include high-availability core groups.
(3) In asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) of fixed size.
(4) A logical grouping of users, computers, data, and other resources that share either a common purpose or a common level of trust.
(5) A single cartridge location within an Automated Tape Library Dataserver (ATLDS). See also rack number, slot.
(6) One or more processes that each host runtime components. Each has one or more named core groups.

(1) In software distribution, the phase in which previously prepared actions are committed, causing all of the updates to take effect. See also transactional mode.
(2) The second phase in a XA process. If all participants acknowledge that they are prepared to commit, the transaction manager issues the commit request. If any participant is not prepared to commit, the transaction manager issues a back-out request to all participants.
Industry:Software
(1) A unit of work that allows for the remote preparation and execution of SQL statements.
(2) The form of SQL distributed processing in which the application is on a system different from the relational database, and a single application server services all remote unit-of-work requests within a single logical unit of work.
(3) A unit of work that lets a user or an application program read or update data at one location per unit of work. RUOW supports access to one database within a unit of work. An application program can update several remote databases, but it can access only one database within a unit of work. See also transaction.
Industry:Software
(1) In Backup, Recovery, and Media Services, a special operation (*EXIT) available in the control group to permit automatic processing of predefined user routines during control group processing.
(2) A point in a program at which a user exit routine may be given control.
(3) A customized routine that takes control at a specific point in an application. See also installation exit.

(1) In the DDS for a join logical file, the first physical file specified on the JFILE keyword. See also secondary file.
(2) For certain types of join operations using Query, the first of all files that are joined in a query definition. The data from this file is used in every record formed by a join specification.
(3) In RPG, if specified, the first file from which RPG reads a record. In multifile processing, the primary file is used to determine whether the MR indicator is set on. See also full procedural file.
Industry:Software
(1) A task that is in progress when a CICS system failure or immediate shutdown occurs.
(2) During emergency restart, a task that caused records to be written to the system log, but for which no syncpoint record has been found for the current LUW. This task was interrupted before the LUW completed.
Industry:Software
(1) In a multi-MVS or VSE MRO XRF configuration, a region that issues commands to dependent regions at takeover time. See also coordinator.
(2) The client that initiates a process step.
Industry:Software
(1) In SQL replication, a database server that contains replication control tables for the Capture program, Apply program, or Replication Alert Monitor. See also Apply control server, Apply server, Monitor control server, Q Capture server.
(2) The system where the control database component of Tivoli Enterprise Data Warehouse is installed.
(3) In database replication, the database location of the applicable subscription definitions and Apply program control tables.
Industry:Software
(1) A unit of work that allows SQL statements to be submitted to multiple relational database management systems, but no more than one system per SQL statement.
(2) In a distributed process, all processing between two syncpoints taken by two or more intercommunicating transactions using a two-phase commit protocol. A DUW is a distributed LUW.
Industry:Software
(1) In Backup, Recovery, and Media Services, a user-defined storage site where media and containers can be stored awaiting reuse or movement to other locations.
(2) A particular occurrence or example of a location definition. If there is a location definition called USA Call Center, an example of a location would be Toledo Call Center.
