Company Profile:
Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) In the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) X/Open Directory Service (XDS), the component of an attribute that indicates the type of information given by that attribute. Because it is an object identifier, it is unique among other attribute types.
Industry:Software
(1) A TCP/IP port number.
(2) In the Kerberos protocol, a software server that has been assigned a principal name and is registered with the key distribution center (KDC).
(3) In network architecture, a capability of a given layer and the layers below it that is provided to the layer above. The service of a given layer is provided at the boundary between this layer and the next higher layer. (T)
(4) Work performed by a server. A service can be a simple request for data to be sent or stored (as with file servers, HTTP servers, or e-mail servers), or it can be more complex work (as with print servers or process servers).
(5) A component that accepts as input a message, and processes the message; for example, translates its payload into a different format, or routes it to one of several output queues. In WebSphere BI for FN, most services are implemented as WebSphere MQ Integrator message flows or primitives.
(6) An abstract representation of a business function, hiding the specifics of the function interfaces.
(7) A program that performs a primary function within a server or related software.
(8) In service-oriented architecture, a unit of work accomplished by an interaction between computing devices.
(9) A component type in the Tivoli Data Warehouse that is created by the IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager product, displayed in the Executive Console, and provides independent status for associated SLAs based on violation and trend events.
Industry:Software
(1) In a multithreaded environment, to mark a thread so that the system reclaims the thread resources when the thread ends. If the thread is already ended, the resources are freed immediately.
(2) In cross-site mirroring, to disassociate a mirror copy from the production copy to use the mirror copy for a separate operation, such as to save data, to run reports, or to perform data mining. Detaching a mirror copy suspends geographic mirroring.
Industry:Software
gap
(1) In SQL replication, a range of log or journal records that the Capture program cannot read. The changed data in a gap can be lost.
(2) Active-site log data that is not available to the tracking IMS. The log data might be missing either because it was not sent or because an I/O error occurred at the tracking site.
Industry:Software
(1) A unit to which resources and locks are allocated. An AP involves running one or more programs.
(2) In OSI, the part of an application that resides in a single node. An application process consists of one or more application entities and other parts of an application that are unrelated to OSI data communications.
Industry:Software
(1) In Backup, Recovery, and Media Services, an entry in a control group that contains similar items such as libraries, folders, or objects.
(2) A type of object, which DB2 utilities can process, that identifies multiple table spaces, multiple index spaces, or both. A list is defined with the LISTDEF utility control statement.
Industry:Software
(1) In the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE), a particular instance of the type of information indicated by an attribute type.
(2) The property of a defining attribute such as a specific color (blue or yellow) or size (medium). See also defining attribute.
(3) Information assigned to a requirement attribute. Attribute values can be text or numbers. For example, the attribute priority can be assigned the values Low, Medium, and High. See also entry-type attribute, list-type attribute.
Industry:Software
(1) A technique for compressing data that avoids repeatedly having to code data elements of the same value; instead, the value is coded once, along with the number of times for it to be repeated.
(2) A type of compression that is based on strings of repeated, adjacent characters or symbols, which are called "runs." See also run.
Industry:Software
(1) In a network environment, the route between any two nodes.
(2) The route through a file system to a specific file.
(3) In OSI, a description of how a local line or line set can be used for outbound communications.
(4) In SNA, the set of data links, data link control layers, and path control layers that a path information unit travels through when sent from the transmission control layer of one half-session to the transmission control layer of another half-session.
Industry:Software
(1) In SQL replication, a table created for and used by an application before it is defined as a replication source. A user table is used as the source for updates to read-only target tables, consistent-change-data tables, replicas, and row-replica tables.
(2) A list of user IDs authorized to a System i finance job.
(3) An installation-defined table that is used to extend, modify, or delete the default processing specifications. See also table pair.
