Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) In communications, the program that is started on the remote system at the request of the source system. See also source program.
(2) In display station pass-through, a program that runs on the remote system.
(3) In VisualAge RPG, the object to be built by the project, such as a Dynamic Link Library (DLL).
Industry:Software
(1) In WebSphere MQ, a shutdown of a queue manager that allows all connected applications to disconnect. See also forced shutdown, immediate shutdown, preemptive shutdown.
(2) A type of shutdown of the CICS adapter where the adapter disconnects from WebSphere MQ, but only after all the currently active tasks have been completed. See also forced shutdown.
Industry:Software
(1) An access point through which a user or application program accesses the SNA network to communicate with another user or application program.
(2) A unit of linear measurement. For example, in Mixed Object Document Content Architecture (MO:DCA) and AFP data streams, the following measurements are used: 1 L-unit = 1/1440 inch, 1 L-unit = 1/240 inch.
(3) In open systems, a logical disk drive.
(4) A device or controller to which Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) commands are addressed, such as a virtual disk (VDisk) or managed disk (MDisk).
Industry:Software
(1) In communications, the system that issues a request to establish communications with another system.
(2) In distributed data management (DDM), a system containing an application program that requests access to data in another system.
(3) The system that sends information in a network of systems that exchange objects and data. See also target system.
(4) The system that currently owns the production copy of an independent disk pool in a cross-site mirroring (XSM) environment. Changes to the production copy of an independent disk pool are replicated to all mirror copies of the independent disk pool that exist on backup nodes within the recovery domain.
Industry:Software
(1) In WebSphere MQ, a shutdown of a queue manager that does not wait for applications to disconnect. Current message queue interface (MQI) calls are allowed to complete, but new MQI calls fail after an immediate shutdown has been requested. See also controlled shutdown, preemptive shutdown.
(2) A shutdown of CICS in which tasks in progress are not allowed to complete normally. This form of shutdown is requested from the master terminal.
Industry:Software
(1) An activity that starts another activity, its child.
(2) An activity whose processing results in the launching of a child activity. For example, a procedure becomes a parent activity as it opens a cursor, which becomes the child activity. See also child activity.
Industry:Software
(1) In communications, the time required to reverse the direction from sending to receiving or from receiving to sending on a communications line.
(2) The elapsed time between entry of the first character of the first input into the input interface and the passage of the last character of the last output through the output interface.
(3) The total time consumed from the start to the completion of a specific unit of work measured at specific interfaces. When multiple inputs and/or multiple outputs are parts of one unit of work, intermediate turnaround time specifications may be needed.
Industry:Software
(1) In WebSphere MQ, a supplied set of programs that provide the system operator or system administrator with facilities in addition to those provided by the WebSphere MQ commands.
(2) A stereotype that groups global variables and procedures in the form of a class declaration. The utility attributes and operations become global variables and global procedures, respectively. A utility is not a fundamental modeling construct, but a programming convenience.
Industry:Software
(1) An added descriptive comment or explanatory note.
(2) In speech recognition, an alphanumeric string used to mark a grammar when it is defined. When the grammar is used in an application, both the word and the alphanumeric string are returned to the application.
(3) Information about a span of text. For example, an annotation could indicate that a span of text represents a company name. In the Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA), an annotation is a kind of feature structure. See also Common Analysis Structure.
Industry:Software
(1) In computer graphics, a two-dimensional pattern of dots that are used for designing an image on the display.
(2) In word processing, a pattern of dots used to form characters.
