Industry:Software
(1) An object-oriented programming technique implemented in C++ through derivation, in which the derived class inherits members from more than one base class.
(2) A semantic variation of generalization in which a type may have more than one supertype. See also single inheritance.
Industry:Software
(1) In Open Systems Interconnection (OSI), the part of an application process that contains the OSI communications functions. Application entities can have more than one application association. See also application entity title.
(2) A logical grouping of application data into a unit with a discrete function, such as a case, contract, contact, or item. An application data entity is an application's way of organizing data in database tables into units or objects that correspond to business functions.
(3) An independent, self-contained, distinct set of software components that perform specific tasks.
Industry:Software
(1) An occurrence of significance to a task or system. Events can include completion or failure of an operation, a user action, or the change in state of a process. See also indicator collection, resource model, journal receiver, receiver.
(2) A change to an application entity that triggers a business object. This business object, which contains data and a verb, becomes an event in the WebSphere business integration system. See also application event.
(3) In the Notes Calendar, an entry with a duration of at least one day. For example, an all-day meeting or a vacation is an event.
(4) A transition in database activity caused by users, applications, or the database manager. Events include connections, deadlocks, and transactions.
(5) A change to data in an enterprise information system (EIS) that results in an update to the event store. The adapter processes event store information to deliver business objects from the EIS to the endpoints that subscribe to those business objects.
Industry:Software
(1) In OSI Communications Subsystem, the application entity that accepts an application association. See also initiator.
(2) A key server that is asked to establish a dynamic virtual private network (VPN) connection between two endpoints.
(3) In distributed queuing, a program that replies to network connection requests from another system.
Industry:Software
(1) An operation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or exponentiation that is performed only on numeric fields.
(2) In COBOL, the process caused by the running of an arithmetic statement or the evaluation of an arithmetic expression that results in a mathematically correct solution to the arguments presented.
Industry:Software
(1) In OSI X.400, a set of one or more message transfer agents and zero or more user agents that make up a system capable of handling messages and is managed by either an administration or private company.
(2) A set of nodes that are configured for management by Cluster Systems Management. Such a domain has a management server that is used to administer a number of managed nodes. Only management servers have knowledge of the domain. Managed nodes only know about the servers managing them.
(3) An area of knowledge relative to providing control over, and information about the behavior, health and life cycle of manageable resources.
Industry:Software
(1) An operation used to verify data quality or data integrity.
(2) A synchronous or asynchronous indication of a condition caused by invalid data or incorrect positioning of data. Some data checks can be suppressed.
Industry:Software
(1) In OSI X.400, one of two basic parts of electronic mail. A user agent is a program that provides access to the mail system. This program allows users to compose, send, and receive mail.
(2) An application that browses the Web and leaves information about itself at the sites that it visits. In enterprise search, the Web crawler is a user agent.
Industry:Software
