Human papillomavirus (HPV)

Human wart virus, which causes productive infections in the skin, but has also been linked to cancers of the anus, vulva, vagina and cervix in women, and the anus and penis in men. The virus is transmitted through direct skin to skin contact, sexual intercourse or kissing.

A recent study suggests that half of men in the United States, Brazil and Mexico are infected with the virus, leading to calls that boys should be vaccinated.
